Let us introduce ourselves

Our Story

Evangel Life Church is the result of providence thought, forethought and prayer.

On December 13, 2003, the Lord led Rev. Lewis D. Harris, Jr. and a small group of dedicated christians to organize and launch an international missionary organization called "Mission Enterprise International" (MEI).  MEI's first goal was to begin a church whose mission would be to glorify God, our heavenly Father; win the lost to Christ, His eternal Son; equip disciples to take the message of God's love to the nation by the power of the eternal Holy Spirit and  minister to the holistic needs of all persons.  Sometime later in 2004, a small group of four believers met with Pastor Harris at Shoney's Restaurant on the south side of Birmingham to lay the ground work for what is now know as "Evangel Life Church".  The team then embarked on holding bible study at the FGM Center, 7th Avenue South, in late October 2004.  The ideal was Saturday morning bible study was new to most people, but everyone worked to make it a reality.  The bible study adopted the name "Doulos" .  Greek word for servant.  Finally, on Sunday, the 24th of December 2004, Evangel Life Church was officially borned and a luncheon service was held where more than one hundred twenty persons were in attendance which included guest, friends and would be members.  The church met at the FGM Center until June 2005 when a building was leased at 2217 6th Avenue South for the new church location.  Since the building needed major repairs, initial worship services were held in the front entrance of the building.  We held our first worship celebration in the new etiphus on the first Sunday in October 2005.  While at 2217 6th Avenue South, among other ministries, our church implemented "Project Feed The Hungry" for the less fortunate and birmingham homeless people as well as a weekly cell ministry at the South Town Community.  We felt overwhelmed by the bountiful blessings that the Lord was bestowing upon us, but little did we know God was getting  ready to surprise us with another big blessing.  Therefore, when the time came to leave 2217 6th Avenue South, He provided the church etiphus and gave us the money to purchase the property on 3817 Vanderbilt Road in birmingham.  Thanks to Evangel Life members for their sacrificial giving and to those who did everthing possible to get us this property.  The property on 3817 Vanderbilt Road was just what we needed and had prayer for and this is the testament to the ever abiding faithfulness of our God.  We will remain faithful to the forefilling of The Great Commission.
